Hamish:

I see Stuart Howe now works for Butcombe Brewery.

Anyway,

Having seen Atlantic side by side with Marston’s Pedigree (which Wheeler has as 30 ebc), I’d say 8 ebc is a little too pale. And having sampled it again recently I think it not only has next to bugger all simcoe I think it also has very little citra. Have Coors accountants made a visit to Cornwall?.

Cloning beers is difficult, you don’t have Sharp’s water (though you might be able to mimic it), you don’t have Sharp’s fermenters and its unlikely you have Sharp’s yeast, all of these things influence the flavour of the beer. And I don’t think recipes necessarily scale up or scale down, so I think its best to brew a taste-a-like with whatever ingredients it takes.

I think Phil’s hop grist will get you thereabouts, but, just to confuse you even more here is my stab in the dark…
